Day 12!

Image
Hello!  Today we spent almost 4 hours in the library putting the final touches on our presentation. I spent another couple of hours working on our video, but the file is too big to be posted here, if you would like to see it and can't be at express fest, let me know and I will send it to you! Throughout the entire project, we regularly reviewed and spent lots of time deciding which clips to include in the final video. We had recorded so many videos so there were so many to go through and watch before making the video. Tomorrow is express fest, where we will have our table set up with the poster and the video for all to see. We are excited to be finishing up high school, but also feeling kind of weird. High school in general, and senior project went by so quickly. I am going to miss the routine we established during senior project because it was just so much fun to get exercise and hang out with dogs. It has been so much fun!

Day 11!

Image
Hello!  Today we walked Joe Mori starting at 1:30, followed by an attempt to walk Stanley, who unfortunately wasn't home. We have started working a lot on our final presentations and spending most of the time during the day doing the video and planning our poster. We spent a lot of time working on our self-reflection papers today as well. We spent about 3.5 hours working total on our project today from 1:30-5:00. We started late so we could attend the senior seminar meeting this morning. This senior seminar meeting was honestly one of the best, I could listen to Will talk for hours on end. Almost done!! See you tomorrow for one final post!  (Joe loves Katie)

Weekly Reflection 2!

Image
Hello!  This week was a little different, but still lots of fun! We had a full day on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but Thursday and Friday were scheduled weirdly. This week we zoned in on our research for our final poster presentation for the Express Fest. I was researching training techniques and what to do and what not to do while training a dog, the importance of veterinary care for our precious animals, as well as breed specifics. I spent a lot of time on the American Kennel Club website this week. Looking at different training tips and other things that I find interesting and one thing that I found to be incredibly interesting was that dogs aren’t born to understand English, or any other language is spoken in the home. So the new dog you just brought home has no idea what the word “no” means, which means that you have to show that dog what you want him to do so he makes an association between the action and the sound coming out of your mouth. Also, training your dog with high-

Day 10!

Today was different because I had a game in the afternoon and we both received our second dose of the Covid vaccine. We only got two walks in today. We started with Joe Mori and finished with Stanley. Both were very good for us! We walked about 3.5 miles today in total. The weather has been beautiful recently and we have been loving just being able to be outside all day! We worked on our project for 3 hours today.

Day 9!

Image
Today was a little different and tomorrow will be too! We started slightly late at 9:30 with Joe Mori followed by Orwell Dickman. Both did great! We had a senior seminar at 11 am, and then I had a game to prepare for, so we could only get in two walks today. However, we did end up getting 3 hours of work in today. After the seminar, we did some research and reviewed our videos for our final video. I got around 5,000 steps today, which would be more if I were allowed to wear my watch during my game. But it was a great day! See you tomorrow!

Day 8!

Image
Today we woke up at 8:30 and began this beautiful 80-degree day with Mac Kidder at 9. We then took Cricket and Fleur Fairbrother for a walk, and they are two of the best dogs I think I have ever walked. Fleur chases balls and can be off-leash confidently, and Cricket is sweet and old and never pulls on the leash. They are truly perfect dogs. We then walked Stanley, who is always a delight, followed by Comet Will. We motivated Comet with training treats today and he was AMAZING. He walked right next to us the whole way! Small steps! At 4:30, right before our final walk of the day, I got myself knee-deep into a game of Catan with Saul and Jasper, but Jaime was a champ and took Mindy and Rocky Wamaru on her own, so I could focus on winning. (Unfortunately, I still got absolutely demolished by Jasper) We worked for 5.5 hours today!

Day 7!

Image
Hello Today was a long one. I set my alarm for 8:30, but my internal clock decided that 7:30 sounded better so I was up at 7:30. We began our day with Joe Mori at 9. Then I decided to go to advisory so I could catch up with my advisor and watch Emily's happiness presentation. I then got a coffee with my good friend Caroline Coyne from Jakes. After that, we walked Radley and Stanley at 10:30. Radley took a dip and a roll in a pile of mud, which resulted in panic knowing that we would have to return him so dirty, but we tried to rinse him off before. Then, Kelly told us to just let him swim in the pond, so both Stanley and Radley took a nice refreshing swim. After that, I smelled like a wet dog, but it was worth it because Stanley was a very good boy when I was drying him off. To finish off the day we walked Novasota and Merrill Summers, a dynamic duo. We walked a total of 7.5 miles today, about 17,000 steps. Feeling great, see you tomorrow! 5.5 hours today

Day 6!

Image
Hello!  Today we started our day at 9:30 with Orwell Dickman. He was not interested in walking and had his mindset on staying in the shade, so I just let him wander wherever he wanted until he laid down again. I personally think he was just tired. Then we walked Stanley Grotnes, who was perfect as always. We spent the time that we were not walking dogs reviewing videos and pictures for our final senior project video. In total, we spent 5.5 hours working on our project today. We walked about 7 miles total today, with Stanley, Comet, Orwell, and Mac. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.

Weekly Reflection 1!

Image
This week was so much fun! We have gotten to walk a lot of the on-campus and off-campus dogs, who are all very cute and nice! We have learned so much about each of the dog’s personalities and if they can be on or off-leash, if they can be around other dogs, if they know their way around campus, or if they are food motivated. This week, the dog that impressed me the most, from his cuteness to his ability to walk with us and being a good dog all the time, was Stanley. Stanley was always so excited to come outside with us and walk around, stopping for smells a lot. He comes to the door willingly and allows us to put on his leash for our walks. I loved what we were doing. I have always had a passion for animals and being able to spend almost every waking moment with them has been so nice, especially because I get to be at Proctor while I am doing it. We are also getting so much exercise, which is so nice, and it’s built into the project. This week we need to find a way to spread out the

Day 5!

Image
Hello! Today we woke up at 8:30 and began our day with Joe Mori. Then, we picked up Orwell Dickman for a walk, but he wasn't really feeling the whole "walking" idea, so he mostly rolled around in the grass and adventured around in the flowers. Then we walked Stanley Grotnes, and we made the mistake of walking by Slocumb, where he saw Jill, and no longer wanted anything to do with walking with us. We left him with Jill at Slocumb. After lunch, we walked Comet Will along the rail trail. We walked about 5.8 miles today, and we got some wonderful film for our final video. We worked on our project for about 4.5 hours today.

Day 4!

Image
Hello! Today we did some research on training for young dogs. We are both interested in what it takes to train a dog and how much work it really is, so it was fascinating to learn more about it. We didn't walk quite as much today. We woke up, went to bluebird and then started our day at 9am with Joe Mori. Joe was very well behaved today, we were very impressed! We then walked Mac Kidder, who actually wasn't really into the whole idea of walking, so I just allowed her to socialize with other dogs, and people of course, at outdoor assembly, after we tried to get her to go around the pond with us. We worked for 4.5 hours today, making our total amount, 20 hours.

Day 3!

Image
Hello!  Today was (again) almost identical to yesterday. We started our morning off taking Mac Kidder out for a stroll, followed by Cricket and Fleur Fairbrother. After that, we got our regular coffees and came back to the dorm for film review and a moment to breathe. Then we continued at 10:45 with Stanley Grotnes and spent some quality time with one of our favorites. We then walked Comet Will starting at 12:30 until 1:00, until an abrupt message about a 1 o'clock practice start time made us end slightly early. We then enjoyed sports and finished the day off with two of the best behaved, most elegant, majestic dogs I have ever seen, Mindy and Rocky Bunten-Wamaru. Today my Fitbit let me know that I walked 21,267 steps, about 9.43 miles. At this rate, I might fit into my graduation outfit! (just kidding) We worked for 5.5 hours today. Have a good day!

Day 2!

Image
Today was almost exactly like yesterday! We have established our routine, working in an iced coffee from Jake's every now and then. We woke up at 8:30 and began our first walk with Joe Mori at 9. Then we had Orwell Dickman, who we allowed to frolic wherever he liked. After him, we walked Stanley Grotnes and Radley Griffin-Brown, who walked like old buddies and were perfect together. In the afternoon we walked Mack Kidder (who is named after Charlie McAvoy and is also perfect), and the Summer's dogs. We walked over 21,000 steps, 9.36 miles according to my Fitbit, I don't know how accurate it really is but I like to believe it's giving me good information. We worked on our project in some form for 5.5 hours today. Overall a good day and I can't wait for tomorrow!

Day 1!

Image
Hello!  Today is May 10, the first day of senior project! I woke up at 8:30 so that we could be ready for our first walk with Joe, Dan Mori's dog, at 9:00. We walked Joe Mori, Stanley Grotnes, Comet Will, and Orwell Dickman. Today I walked a total of 20,000 ish steps! Joe and Stanley were very good for us, Comet and Orwell gave us a bit more of a hard time because they are younger, but they were cute, so we didn't mind. I can't wait for tomorrow! We worked on our project in some way for 5.5 hours today. Here are pictures of Joe and Stanley, for good luck.
